Apostasy precedes full manifestation of the antichrist
St. Paul tells us in his second letter to the Thessalonians, chapter 2, that our Lord Jesus Christ will not return in glory until "the apostasy comes first and the lawless one is revealed." There is plenty of evidence that the majority of society in the United States and throughout the world has abandoned faith in Jesus Christ.
Apostasy has always existed in religion (scroll down past index to see article). Today's world, however, has apostasized on a grand scale due to its conviction that science and technology will allow us to live without dependence on faith in God. The above link hightlights three dangers in particular that lead to apostasy:
"According to B. J. Oropeza, the warning passages in the New Testament describe at least three dangers which could lead a Christian to commit apostasy:1) Temptations: Christians were tempted to engage in various vices that were a part of their lives before they became Christians (idolatry, sexual immorality, covetousness, etc.).2) Deceptions: Christians encountered various heresies and false teachings spread by false teachers and prophets that threatened to seduce them away from their pure devotion to Christ.3) Persecutions: Christians were persecuted by the governing powers of the day for their allegiance to Christ. Many Christians were threatened with certain death if they would not deny Christ."
Contemporary evidence of apostasy
Over 900,000 people left the Catholic Church in Germany between 2022 - 2023.
"Commenting on the results of the survey, Bishop Peter Kohlgraf of Mainz said the reason for the high number of people leaving is a growing alienation between churches and society.'Many people in our society lack nothing: They are content without God, without a church and without any religious faith,' the bishop remarked."
2015 Apostasy in the American Chruch
"...it is the church's capitulation to the world's standards that has caused the most damage to the Christian faith and the church" wrote Jason Charles.
