the archangels September 29th, we celebrate the feast of the Archangels Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. They each have a special role in the service of our Lord.
St. Michael
St. Bernard of Clairvaux recommended the invocation of Saint Michael at times of temptation and sorrow: “Whenever any grievous temptation or vehement sorrow oppresses thee, invoke thy guardian, thy leader, cry out to him, and say, ‘Lord, save us, lest we perish!’” ( Butler, Alban. Lives of the Saints, Forgotten Books ISBN 1-60506-312-6 p.372).
The St. Michael prayer is very powerful:
Saint Michael the Archangel,defend us in battle;be our safeguard againstthe wickedness and snares of the devil.May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:and you, O prince of the heavenly host,by the power of God,cast down to hell Satan and the other evil spirits,who prowl through the world for the ruin of souls.Amen. St. Gabriel
This archangel is introduced to us in the Old Testament as the one who helps Daniel to understand the visions he received regarding the end time. See the Book of Daniel 8:16 and 9:21. St. Gabriel is known as the strength of God, and the one who announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she is chosen to be the Mother of God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Traditional prayer to St. Gabriel:
Blessed Archangel Gabriel, we beseech thee. Intercede for us at the throne of Divine Mercy in our present necessities, that as you announced to Mary the mystery of the Incarnation, so through thy prayers and patronage in heaven we may obtain the same benefits, and sing the praise of God forever in the land of the living. Amen.
Prayer to St. Gabriel for strength
St. Raphael
St. Raphael is sent to us for healing. This archangel is introduced to us in the Book of Tobit:
"I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand and serve before the Glory of the Lord." (Tobit 12:15), and most likely is the one refered to as the one who "stirs the water" in the Gospel of John 5:7. St. Raphael helps us "to see the light of Heaven."
Prayer for healing & protection:
Most Holy Mother, Queen of the Angels and Archangels, send me your Champion, the Archangel Saint Raphael, let him heal me of all my spiritual and physical ailments in JESUS’ HOLY NAME. May he protect me from satan and all the evil spirits. Saint Raphael be my guide and protector on my journey through life. O’ glorious Saint Raphael the Archangel, herald of blessings, pray for us!Amen.
