I am the Alpha and the Omega (Rev 1:8)
The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him, to show his servants what must happen soon. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who gives witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ by reporting what he saw. Blessed is the one who reads aloud and blessed are those who listen to this prophetic message and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near. (Rev. 1:1-3)
God continues to reveal to us what we need to know for our salvation. It is always up to us to remain engaged and to pray for insight into the Word of God, who has no beginning and no end, who is the way and the truth and the life (see Jn 14:6) and wants us to be with Him forever.
The Prophet Daniel sought knowledge through prayer and fasting, and God responded in His mercy. St. John the Evangelist, exiled to the island of Patmos for his “testimony to Jesus” (Rev. 1:9), sought wisdom. God revealed great things to him about the present and the future. Our Lord Jesus Christ is eager to help us understand our present trials; we must increase in our capacity and desire to know more (see Jn 16:12). Behold, he is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. All the peoples of the earth will lament him. Yes. Amen.“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.” (Rev. 1:7-8)
